The lights dim and Carl Orff’s “O Fortuna” begins to play, echoing off the walls as five men take to the stage. A single spotlight comes on, and droning guitars weave into the quilted web of noise as each player takes his instrument. Is it the Super Bowl? Not quite. It’s only The Guess Who at the Seneca Allegany Casino on Saturday night, but for the casino, it may have been an equally momentous performance.

The 1891 Fredonia Opera House will screen its first Live at the Met High Definition Broadcast – Wagner’s Die Walküre – on Sat., May 14, at 12 p.m.

“We’re very excited to be presenting our first live opera transmission,” says Opera House Executive Director Rick Davis. “This is a project we’ve been working on for some now; and thanks to the efforts and contributions of several supporters, it’s wonderful to see it finally come to fruition.”
