INTERNATIONAL INTEREST IN AUDUBON PHOTO CONTEST

A recent inquiry from Central America has convinced Program Director Jennifer Schlick that the Jamestown Audubon Society’s 2011 Photography Contest will surely be the most far-reaching to date.
“We had good participation in our first two Art in the Woods photo contests,” Schlick noted, “but we’re extending our reach this year, and it seems to be paying off.”
While the intention of announcing the contest in national publications was to give it broader exposure and participation, the international response was most encouraging.
“A 13-year-old from Guatemala has contacted us, asking for clarification on the submission requirements,” Schlick said. “Now we’re eager to receive those entries!”
The competition is part of the July 16-17 Art in the Woods art show and sale at the beautiful Audubon Center and Sanctuary in the southwest corner of New York State.
“Animals! Animals! Animals!” is the theme for the contest, and prizes will be awarded in three categories and three divisions. Categories are: Educational (e.g., zoos, aquariums, nature centers), Agricultural (cows, horses, goats, chickens, pigs, and any other animals you find on the farm), and Wild (any wild animal in its natural habitat – and don’t forget: insects and worms are animals, too!). Divisions are: Beginners (ages 8-12), Youth (ages 13-18 or still in high school) and Adult (post-high school).
To select the People’s Choice Award, visitors to Art in the Woods, including artists, volunteers, and staff, will vote on their favorites among the finalists that will be on exhibit throughout the weekend.
Each photographer may submit up to five photos. Contest entry deadline is June 30, 2011. Full details for the competition are on-line at www.jasphotocontest.com.
