UFC’s The Ultimate Fighter Coaches Face Off at UFC 124

In less than four days the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the largest Mixed Martial Arts promotional company in the world will host UFC 124: St. Pierre vs. Koscheck at the Bell Centre in Quebec, Canada.

On December 11th in Montreal, MMA fans will witness the UFC’s recent “The Ultimate Fighter” coaches George “Rush” St. Pierre (20-2) defend his Welterweight Title against Josh Koscheck (15-4). This will be Koscheck’s second attempt at defeating St. Pierre.

Undefeated fighter Sean McCorkle (10-0) will face veteran Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve. Veteran fighter Jim Miller (18-2) will battle it out with the undefeated Charles Oliveira (14-0) at 155lbs. Expect war when Joe “Daddy” Stevenson (31-10) steps in the cage with Mac Danzig (19-8-1). Also on the main event, Thiago “Pitbull” Alves (16-7) will return to the cage at 170lbs to fight John Howard (14-5).

This is sure to be a night of international proportions as some of the UFC’s best step in to the cage. I successfully predicted three out of the five Strikeforce main event fights last weekend, now it’s time to see if I can improve my record with UFC 124.

Koscheck is considered a local favorite amongst several in the area since he wrestled at Edinboro University in P.A., but I have to give St. Pierre the main event fight. St. Pierre not only has a better record than Koscheck, but he has already defeated him by unanimous decision at UFC 74. In my opinion St. Pierre is the better well-rounded fighter, and he will surely display his wide range of talents in this title fight.

The McCorkle and Struve fight is sure to be another exciting match up. Both fighters have several wins for submission victories, but both fighters can also bang it out and stand with the best in the business. McCorkle is undefeated, but Struve is more experienced and I’ve got a gut feeling he will win this fight. However, if McCorkle can stun Struve early I think he stands a good chance at remaining undefeated.

Jim Miller is one of my favorite UFC fighters and in my opinion will give the undefeated Charles Oliveira a battle until the end. Both fighters are coming off impressive victories in their previous fights, but I think Miller’s experience will help him get the win in this battle. Oliveria has impressive grappling skills, as does Miller; so it will be interesting to see if these guys will keep the fight standing or take it to the ground.

Also, I expect Stevenson and Alves both to win their fights this weekend. Stevenson is coming off a decision loss to George Sotiropoulos and I expect will come out swinging against Danzig who is also coming off a loss from Matt Wiman.

Alves is also coming off a loss to Jon Fitch at UFC 117. Alves in his last fight failed to make 170 pounds by half a pound and was forced to give up $12,000 of his fight purse to Fitch. Hopefully Alves has controlled his weight issues and will come back Saturday night with the will to win.
