Feel like kids movies these days need a bit more variety? Well, don’t worry, this one is a bit out of the box.

This isn’t your usual animated film where the good guy saves the day and the villain dies, this movie actually has a bit of a twist, or two.

Now, for most parents, it might be pretty predictable after watching the first ten minutes, but don’t worry, you won’t be bored and neither will your kids.

Megamind is a movie about a boy, well an alien, who doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the crowd, and soon he uses his intellectual ways to be a little evil.

But, not to worry, his counterpart, Metroman, always comes in to save the day!

However, Metroman isn’t all the citizens of Metro City crack him up to be, and you and your kids will see that by the end.

At the end of the movie, you’ll be able to see that the real hero of the story might be the one you didn’t quite expect at the beginning.

You’ll fall in love with Megamind’s big, blue head and his desire to fit in. You may even see a reflection of yourself when you were growing up through elementary and middle school – just a kid trying to fit in with everyone else.

And, of course, there is a bit of a love story to it, but it’s completely PG.

If you are not caught by the plot and the previews, then you might enjoy the cast: Will Ferrel, Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, Brad Pitt and David Cross all play the leading roles in this Dreamworks production.

Like every animated movie these days, your kids will learn a lesson: the good old adage of “don’t judge a book by its cover.”

The movie is appropriate for all ages, from 2 to 92, just try to make sure the kiddies stay in their seats.

Also, for all you parents out there, if you like Will Ferrell then you’ll definitely enjoy this film. As my friend put it, “It’s a standard Will Ferrell movie,” just more kid appropriate.
