Crash Test Dummies Speeding Through Niagara Casino on New Tour
After 6 years, their back with a new album "Oooh La La!"
After a 6 year hiatus, the band known for their hit song “Hmm Hmm Hmm Hmm” is back promoting their new album Oooh La La!. This Friday they will be performing at the Niagara Casino’s Bear’s Den as one of the first stops on their Northeast tour. Identified by their playful lyrics and signature voice of singer Brad Roberts, the band has returned with a twist.
Collaborating with producer Stewart Lerman, singer/songwriter Brad Roberts has found a new instrument to wrap his voice around. It’s known as a Optical Organ, engineered back in the 70’s to simulate multiple instruments through each key. This “musical toy” is the inspiration for the new album.
“The sounds of the toy helped shape the songs to begin with and stimulate our imagination,” Brad Roberts said. He went on to explain how the Organ has brought a unique style to the music. “I don’t write big band style, but all of a sudden I had this big band [on disc]” Roberts said “so I’m writing in a genre that I normally wouldn’t be writing in. I can’t say enough about how great it is to write on these toys.”
The Crash Test Dummies’ new album Oooh La La! was released in March and possesses much of the baritone voice that fans know and love with Roberts’ new “musical toys” taking a turn for the adventurous. This tour sparks life in a band that started to dwindle when file sharing began taking a chunk out of music sales. The album is a clever collaboration of musical genres wrapped around Brad Roberts influential voice.
The concert is Friday December 3rd at the Niagara Casino. The show starts at 8pm, tickets start out at $20. Information on tickets are available at senecaniagaracasino.com.
The concert is one of many for the Crash Test Dummies, but Roberts said it will be nothing short of awesome. “Expect a bunch of our old hits and some off our new record,“ he said. “It’s going to be great, our act is really amazing, we have been touring for some time now, I’ve been going up on stage loving what I’m doing. It’s going to be a great show!”
